Coffee and Curios

About us

Your Gateway To Fantasy!

Assuming that you fantasize about relaxing in a chill environment with hand-crafted beverages and locally-sourced snacks, comfy seating, books, games, music, and events.

The Enchanted Mug was born from a dream of a mighty capital where Depewians, Lancasterites, Sloanish, greater Cheektowagans, and visiting friends from abroad could come together and share their dreams, aspirations, and creativity while building towards a greater tomorrow for Western New York, and thus, the world.

However, we predict that more people would prefer to relax and swap cat pictures while sipping on tasty drinks, and suppliers prefer to get paid with currency than with hopes and dreams, so we’re building a coffee shop.

Who is The Enchanted Mug?

Kim and Shawn Baumgartner came to Depew in 2024, fell in love with WNY, and decided to start a local business to work directly with our community.

Kim has been a public schoolteacher for multiple grades, with a focus on children with special needs, and a program coordinator for a national continuing education organization.

Shawn has spent a career working for a global entertainment company as a systems engineer and developer, with brief breaks to work for a startup and to do some contract work.

Together, they founded and ran Feral Haven, Inc, a non-profit for managing feral cat colonies and assisting with rehoming.

What we bring to the table

  • Decades of professional experience in highly dynamic environments
  • Extensive experience working with business finance systems and processes
  • Broad experience with common maintenance and construction activities
  • Fully self-funded with no external obligations
  • Dedication to building long-term sustainability over chasing fast growth or profits
  • A desire to bring our community closer together and add a little magic to their lives

Specific plans are in development, as the implementation of The Enchanted Mug is dependent on location. The design is intended to be flexible, to provide environmental dynamism and flexibility in offerings and events.

The core offerings will be based around cafe delights like espresso, tea, and coffee drinks. Food program options are being considered, but we are not incorporating options that require more than countertop preparation. Initial plans to maintain light snacks sourced from local bakeries, confectioners, and other purveyors of tasty goods.

We expect a four-to-six-month buildout prior to full opening. We are planning soft open periods prior to regular operation, once all legal requirements have been met and sufficient buildout has been completed, but expect a minimum of three months from the closing on a location before any customer-facing operations begin.

Be patient; your Mug is coming.
